Portland ~ Harvey L. Thompson, 90, a retired landman, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 in Portland, Texas.

Graveside service is 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home.

Rev. Gary Sessions will officiate.

Harvey was born on February 28, 1926 to the late Arthur Logan and Bertha Ova Lee (Gully) Thompson in Willow Point, Texas. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1944. Harvey graduated from Del Mar College, and attended Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas.

He served at the age of 18 as a Calvary soldier in the United States Army during World War II in the China, Burma, India Theater of Operations, was involved in the retaking of Burma, was awarded Asiatic Pacific Campaign with 4 campaign stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Bronze Star Medal.

Following his discharge, he returned and married Wanda Mann, a girl from his high school. In the late 1940s he became Foreman of the shipping department in the Bricks Industry and worked through the 1940s to the middle of the 1960s near Mineral Wells, Texas. In 1966, he became an Independent Landman contracting to electric companies in the Southwest and Northeast United States.

In 1974, he came to Portland, Texas and worked the next 23½ years for Natural Gas Pipeline Company. Harvey was a Master Mason and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of Parkdale Baptist Church.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Virgie Kee and Dovie Allen; and his brothers, Durward Arthur Thompson and Rayford Percy Thompson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Wanda Thompson of Portland; his daughters, Sandra Kay Hensley of Hurst and Jill Ann Tipton and husband Ross of Corpus Christi; his granddaughter, Gina Renee Scott and husband Danny of Hurst; his great grandson, Jack Hamilton Scott of Hurst; his sister, Angie Ilene Allen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and a host of friends.
