Bridgeport~ Rodis Lynn David, 80, went to be with our Lord on Monday, January 25, 2021 in Bridgeport.

Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial to follow in DFW National Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rev. Eugene Reed will officiate. Pallbearers are to include Michael Williams, Larry David, Jr., Malcolm David, DeMarcus David, Malcolm Rainwater, Jr., and Jaylen Rainwater. Honorary Pallbearers include Rodis David III, Lamar Hines, Treveus Rainwater, and Tyron Rainwater, Jonathan Smith, and Justin Smith.

Rodis was born on May 14, 1940 in Wortham, Texas to Roy David and Hazel Donison. He was a retired veteran and proudly served our country in the United States Army. He served many years with distinction in Vietnam and received these commendations for his dedication and bravery. Bronze Star Medal with 2 bronze Oak Leaf Clusters V, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 bronze oak leaf cluster V, Good Conduct Medal 3rd Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Expert Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device in 1960,Expert Badge with Auto Rifle Bar, Sharpshooter Badge with Machine Gun Bar with Rifle Bar, Marksman Badge with Pistol Bar, Parachutist Badge Basic, Senior and Master, and Drill Sergeant ID Badge. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. He was united in marriage to Linda Reed Thomas on July 1, 1995 in Arlington, Texas. He served many years at Greater New Hope Baptist Church and was ordained as a minister in 2002 in Holland, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy David and Hazel Donison; his first wife, Sadie; and his grandson, Kendrick; his 5 sisters, Eula, Frances, Shirley, Alma Jean and Eileen; and 1 brother, Richard.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 25 years, Linda Rochelle Thomas David; his children, Larry Sr. and wife Debbie, Rodis Jr., and wife Annette, Robert, Janie and husband Malcolm, Lionel, TaRhonda, and Trey and wife Carnetta; Yasmine, Zarriya, Debora, Tennille, and Regina; his sisters, Ella Williams, Anne Skinner, Hazel Parker, and Beverly David, his brothers, Connell David, Roy David, Jr., John David, Freddie David, Robert Harris, John Stephens and Kenneth Stephens; 26 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and one special friend, Spurgeon Young.
