Decatur ~ Rebecca Deanda (Bullock) Elosegui went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at the age of 50, in Ft. Worth.
Rebecca — “Becky” to all who knew her — was born on May 9, 1970, in Irving, Texas, to Jim and Suzanne (Hoyt) Bullock. She attended Paul Keyes Elementary and Stephen F. Austin Junior High in Irving and graduated from Irving High School in 1988 at the top of her class (8th out of 290).
Throughout her childhood, Becky was an avid soccer player on a team in a Select League that won the North Texas Dr. Pepper championship in 1980. She was a musician, playing the coronet and the piano, a lover of music ranging from The Beatles to 10,000 Maniacs to Twenty One Pilots, and active in drama, including roles in her high school’s rendition of “Greater Tuna” and as Mrs. Mitty in “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.”
After high school, Becky attended the University of Dallas. During college, she lived and attended school in Vitinia, Italy (outside of Rome) for 9 months, becoming fluent in Italian and touring most of Europe as well as parts of North Africa. After Italy, she spent 6 months studying and working in Cuernavaca, Mexico (outside of Mexico City) where she became fluent in Spanish and built a network of friends. Becky earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from UD and then a Bachelor of Science degree from DeVry University.
After college, Becky married the love of her life, Ruben Elosegui, on January 6, 1995, and later, after she converted to Catholicism, they renewed their vows at St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford, Texas. She and Ruben were blessed with 3 beautiful children: Nicolas (“Nick”), Faith, and Shane. They lived in Irving, Euless and Roanoke where she was a stay-at-home mom for many years and then a database administrator-programmer for Verizon and then Quorum International. From Roanoke, they happily settled in Decatur and became members of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.
Becky loved to cook and laugh and have a good time. Her chile con queso and casseroles were the delight of family gatherings. She was a prolific photographer and documenter of her children’s lives — innumerable photos, scrapbooks, and Facebook-postings of football and soccer games, dance recitals, Trick-or-Treating, birthday parties, trips to Disneyworld and Sea World, and all the blessed, little moments in between that make up a life well lived. She loved her horses, dogs, cats and, yes, even their burro; but, most of all, she dearly loved her family and friends. And we dearly love her.
To the world, she is Rebecca. To her friends, Becky. To her family, she is Becky Boodle, Baby, Precious Girl, Momma, Honey, Aunt Becky – a fierce Mama Bear protecting her young ones, a devoted wife, a dearly loved daughter who made her parents proud, a beloved sister and cohort in crime, a loving aunt, cousin and friend. And we sorely miss her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are:
- her husband of 25 years, Ruben Elosegui of Decatur;
- her son Nick and his betrothed Nolen Ludwig of Haltom City;
- her daughter Faith and her son Shane;
- her mother and step-dad Suzanne and Mike Carroll of Northlake (Nick first called Mike “The Man,” but later he became Poppy to the clan);
- her father and step-mom Jim and Jannell Bullock of Kerrville (MaNell passed the crucial test to become another mom when Becky confronted her with “you know, I’m my daddy’s little girl” and was assured that title was not contested);
- her brother and sister-in-law Jim and Lee Bullock and nephew Corbin of Plano;
- her step-sister and brother-in-law Leslie and Ian Walker and step-nieces and nephews Madison, Roman, Landon and Elena of Allen;
- her step-sister Rebecca Carroll and her beloved, Beau Devillier, and step-nieces and nephew Devon, Morgan, Dylan and Jessie of Sachse.
The family tally must count the people who share Becky’s genetic makeup and shaped her becoming:
- her aunt Carla Smith of San Angelo;
- her uncle and aunt Richard and Carol Hoyt of El Cajon, CA;
- her beloved cousin “Nay,” James Burns, who took responsibility for Becky’s every little infraction, even when he was 1500 miles away…When confronted with evidence of her misdeeds at 18 months of age, her absolution was ”Nay did it…”
The circle is not complete until cousins are counted…and held accountable…the cousins gang of Becky’s younger days molded the steel in her character and flamed the fire in her eye: life isn’t easy for a tiny red-haired toddler chasing after her brother and boy cousins, Big Donnie, Michael Richard, and Steven Ray Smith - Becky got tough early on. And then came the girl cousins, Tammy Swanson and Kristi Bullock, who lifted Becky out of the fray and girded her with feminine empowerment – the Divine Sisterhood.
Not genetic, but certainly sisters under the skin, are life-long friends Michelle Goodson, Christina Germaine, Tara Jennings, Liz Webb Donnelly, Laurie Hammack, and Miranda Baker.
Becky had the opportunity to be the best employee she could be, while still being the best mom in the world, because of the incredible support and encouragement of Dimitrius Samudio, her manager at Quorum International. D is, and always has been, the Elosegui Family Hero.
“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life … Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her … Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” PROVERBS 31: 10-12, 28-31.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at The Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1305 S. Deer Park Road, Decatur, TX 76234, with burial immediately following at Oaklawn Cemetery, 465 Cemetery Road, Decatur, TX 76234. Family will receive friends between 6:00-8:00 p.m., with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Hawkins Funeral Home, 405 E. Main Street, Decatur, TX 76234.
