Homer Allen Horton

Paradise ~ Homer Allen Horton, 74, went to be with our Lord Monday, April 8th, 2024 in Decatur, Texas.

Funeral is 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 12th, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Cottondale with burial at Paradise Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Jason Pugh & David Pugh will officiate. Pallbearers include Andrew Horton, Blake Horton, Brock Reaves, Chase Pennington, David Owen, Michael Jennings, Bryan Jernigan, and Jason Poston.

Homer was born August 11th, 1949 to Bonnie Jo Gilbert in Big Lake, Texas. He was united in marriage July 5th, 1968 to Kathryn Dorene (Niblett) at Flatwood Baptist Church in Decatur, Texas. He graduated from North Texas State University and was a Coach & Teacher for many years before retirement. He also worked for Mitchell Energy throughout the 1980s. Homer was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Jo Gilbert Horton, JD Horton, and grandparents Jack and Esther Gilbert.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Kathy Horton of Paradise; his son Gilbert Horton of Bridgeport; his daughter, Kara Horton of Paradise; 3 grandchildren, Hannah Reaves and husband Brock, Andrew Horton, and Blake Horton all of Bridgeport; great-grandchildren, Kace, Asher, Lane, and Connor; his brothers, Louis Horton and wife Joyce of Decatur, Richard Horton and wife Ollie of Paradise, and David Horton and wife Pam of Decatur; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Kara Horton Fund through the First Baptist Church of Cottondale, 145 CR 3355 Paradise, Tx 76073.
