Denton ~ Willine Gadberry Wood, 92, went to be with our Lord Friday, April 10, 2015 at Good Samaritan Village in Denton.
Funeral is 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Boonsville Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Rev. Sam Caldwell will officiate. Pallbearers include JodyWood, Andy Wood, Wacy Beck, Jimmy Godwin, Dennis Penny, and Tim Reeves.
Willine was born on January 25, 1923 to H.C. and Emma (Fincher) Gadberry in Denton.When she was a toddler they moved to rural Montague County. She attended small country schools until her older sister graduated high school. Her mother then took both girls to Denton to further their education while Mr. Gadberry stayed in Montague County to make a living. Willine attended Demonstration School at TWU and graduated as salutatorian from Denton High School at age 16. She graduated from TWU where she majored in Home Economics and minored in Chemistry. She did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin. She taught at Nocona High School. Willine and Loyd R. Wood were married August 20, 1948 in Nocona. They moved to land in Wise County owned by her father which became known as the Wood Ranch. They raised Charlois and Angus cattle for 48 years. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2005. They were leaders in the local 4-H club and major contributors to the Boonsville/Balsora Fire Dept. They were also instrumental in organizing the Boonsville Community Center. They were both active in the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport until their move to Good Samaritan Village in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Loyd; brother, Grinnell Gadberry; and sister, Idell Campbell.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are son, Paul Wood and wife Debra of Boonsville; her grandchildren, Jody Wood of San Marcos, Andy Wood and wife Valerie of Boonsville, and Megan Wood Roberts and husband Frank of Waxahachie; her great grandchildren, Abby Wood, Jordan Wood, Frankie Roberts, and Lucy Avis Roberts; brother-in-law, Baker Wood and wife Evelyn of Fort Worth; her nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
