Newark ~ William A. Scarborough, 85, went to be with our Lord Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Fort Worth.
Family will welcome friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8th, at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd, followed by a graveside service at 2:45 p.m. at Aurora Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jake Richardson, Robert Richardson, Keaton Scarborough, Rusty Scarborough, Mickey Scarborough, and Robert Darter.
William was born on January 4, 1941, to William Pete and Stella (Province) Scarborough as an Okie, but headed to Texas as quickly as he could. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Neely on August 20, 1962, in Diamond Hill, Texas. William worked as a sheet metal worker, and after his retirement, he started a business with his son, Kenny, called S&S Metals, Refrigeration, and Doors. He was well-known for his exceptional refrigeration doors, known as the “King of Doors.” In addition to his work, William trained racehorses and barrel horses, and he enjoyed attending rodeos and playdays. He enjoyed playing cowboy polo and ran pony express. William took many trips to Winstar for the free buffet, and sometimes they cost him $500. He was a devoted family man who cherished every moment with his children. He lovingly coached them in their sports, sharing in their victories and challenges, always encouraging them to do their best. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kenny Wayne Scarborough; his brother, Herbert Scarborough; and his sister, Nadine Darter.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Scarborough; his daughter, Debra Richardson, and her husband, Robert of Boerne; his grandchildren, Jake Richardson, Payton Scarborough, and Keaton Scarborough, and his wife, Michelle; his brother, Dwayne Scarborough; his sister, Bobbie Jean Clark; several nieces, nephews, and a large host of friends.
