Velda "Jean" Marlett, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, in Bowie, Texas. Born on February 1, 1941, in Fries, Virginia, she dedicated her life to serving others both through her career and her loved ones.

Jean began her illustrious career in nursing by earning her LVN in 1959, followed by her RN in 1978. As a Home Healthcare nurse, she touched the lives of countless patients with her unwavering compassion and commitment to care. Her passion for helping those in need was evident in every patient interaction and earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leman M. and Nancy Rachael (Bailey) Whitaker; her husband, Curtis D. Marlett; and her sisters, Doris A. Miller and Kay Martin, along with her brother, Douglas Whitaker. Each of these individuals left an indelible mark on her life, and she treasured the memories they created together.

Jean is survived by her son, Thomas Deane and his wife Keeko of Japan, and her daughter, Michelle Tran and her husband Nghia of Texas. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Kaji of Japan, Amanda and her husband Matthew of Frisco, Ashleigh of California, and Curtis III of Colorado. Jean found immense joy in her role as a grandmother, and her precious great-grandchildren, Landon and Madelyn and her beloved brother, Leon M. Whittaker, cherishes fond memories of their childhood together along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation to celebrate Jean's life will be held on October 11, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:30 PM at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Friends and family are invited to join in sharing their love, memories, and the impact Jean had on their lives.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the heart of every life she touched.
