DECATUR -- Thomas J. Upchurch, 93, of Decatur went to be with his Lord on Monday, September 24, 2012 in Ft. Worth.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Chapel with burial in Jonestown Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include Clifford Fuentes, Andrew Fuentes, Robert Bates, David Cox, Brian Willeford, Paul Eudy, Herbert Thetford, and Troy Clark.
Thomas was born on August 17, 1919 to Thomas J. and Martha (Shelton) Upchurch in Milford, Texas. He married Vergie Jones on August 18, 1948 in Alvord, Texas. He was a minister of the Gospel for over 50 years in Tarrant and Wise County. He also served his country in the United States Army Air Corp.
Left behind to cherish his memory are a daughter, Linda Taylor and husband Paul of Ft. Worth; 2 sons, Robert D. Bates and wife Brenda of Azle, and Jerry D. Upchurch and wife Patti of Hurst; 1 sister, Catherine Clanton of Ft. Worth; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 1 brother, 5 sisters, and his son, Melvin D. Upchurch.
