T.D. "Slim" Sanders

Chico ~ T.D. “Slim” Sanders, 77, a retired lease operator, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Weatherford.

Funeral is 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Chico Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rev. Edwin Brooks and Rev. Eric Brooks will officiate. Pallbearers include Dustin Sanders, Marshall Sanders, Clint Bitner, Shelby Beckworth, Joshua Beckworth, and Jeremy Bitner. Honorary pallbearers are Dylan Sanders and Adam Roberts.

Slim was born on September 30, 1936 to Tommie and Myrtie (Rutledge) Sanders in Weatherford. He was united in marriage to Deloris Howard on August 26, 1955 in Spur, Texas. Slim was a former police officer and street superintendent for the city of Mineral Wells. He was a lease operator for Republic Energy until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Todd Sanders; his great-grandson, Kain Payson; and his sister, Dorothy Nell Gibson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Deloris Sanders of Chico; his sons, Darrell Sanders and wife Tammy of Chico, Danny Sanders and wife Nancy of Alvord; his daughter, Tammy Dunn and husband Ronnie of Runaway Bay; his grandchildren, Dustin Sanders and wife Ashley, Erin Ooten and husband Ryan, Joshua Beckworth, Shelby Beckworth, Dylan Sanders, Aubrey Blake and husband David, Marshall Sanders, Danielle Sanders, Jill Payson and husband Chris, Clint Bitner and wife Jamie, Jeremy Bitner and wife Nicki, Hayley Roberts, Myah Llanas and husband Jose; 19 great-grandchildren; his brother, Claude Sanders of Lubbock; his sisters, Grace Alexander of Brownwood, Mary Brooks of Amarillo, Beatrice Leverett of Jayton, Aline Love of Jayton, Arlene Davis of Sylva, North Carolina, Delores Gaston of Jayton; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
