Suzanne McKee Morton was wrapped into the loving, healing arms of Jesus on February 12, 2026, at her home in Decatur, Texas, after a seven-plus-year battle with a rare terminal neurological disease, Corticobasal Degeneration.
Suzanne was born on April 23, 1953, to Weida (Pridemore) and James (Jim) Ralph McKee in Fort Worth, Texas. On April 1, 1962, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized on April 8 at Handley Baptist Church.
She grew up on the Eastside of Fort Worth and was an active part of the community. A 1971 graduate of Eastern Hills High School, Suzanne was a talented baton twirler, played the clarinet in the marching band, and was a member of the Striplings Teen Board. A lifelong fan of Texas Longhorn football, she later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics – Textiles in 1978. During her time in Austin, she pledged the Beta Eta chapter of the Delta Gamma sorority. After graduation, she began a long career in retail, opening the Casual Corner clothing store at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth.
On January 19, 1979, she married her beloved husband, helpmate, and best friend of 47 years, Victor (Sonny) Hugh Morton Jr., in Fort Worth, Texas. Together, they shared two beautiful children, Lauren Elizabeth and Jonathan Douglas. She was the most amazing, caring mom.
After a season as a stay-at-home mom, Suzanne returned to retail as a cosmetics consultant for Clinique at Foley’s (originally Sanger-Harris) at Six Flags Mall in Arlington, and later became the counter manager for Clinique at Neiman Marcus at Ridgmar Mall. She was known as the “Clinique encyclopedia” by her peers.
Throughout her life, she had a deep love of horses, especially the Arabian breed. In the 1990s, she bred and raised Straight Egyptian Arabian horses, even selling a colt to Egypt out of her prized mare.
In 1997, Suzanne was in a car accident on her way home from work on I-20 east of Weatherford. Though she was miraculously unharmed, a chance CT scan revealed a tennis ball-sized benign brain tumor. It was successfully removed, and by the mercy of God, she experienced no side effects. This became part of her testimony, and she was always quick to share God’s faithfulness, giving Him the praise and glory.
In 2001, she began a 16-year career as an educator in Decatur ISD in the Read Right program, forever impacting the lives of hundreds of students by helping them learn to read with excellence. Throughout her life, she served others by teaching children in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and GAs. Long after her own children had left home, she continued pouring into young girls through the EDGE program. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Decatur and loved participating in women’s Bible studies. She and Vic volunteered together for a number of years in the Decatur Cares feeding program.
In 2017, she retired from education and took on perhaps her most cherished role — GiGi. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she loved them dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Patricia Hannah; her infant brother, Michael McKee; and precious aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors include her loving husband, Vic Morton of Decatur; daughter, Lauren Morton of Decatur; son, Jonathan Morton and wife, Lauren Hailey, of Decatur; three cherished grandchildren, Emma Morton, Benjamin Morton, and Lane Morton; brother, Mark McKee and wife, Kelly, of Fort Worth; mother-in-law, Ida Morton Clayton of Weatherford; aunt, Pat Pridemore of Fort Worth; brother-in-law, Dale Hannah of Cleburne; sister-in-law, Susan Roach and husband, Mark, of Brock; and many dearly loved family and friends.
The Morton family is grateful to the Solaris Healthcare team, who came into our home and showed such love and care for Suzanne.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Morton, Taylor Koerth, Thomas Staley, Josh Reeves, Michael Hudson, and Robert Roose. Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Morton and Lane Morton.
