Myrtle Ruth (Jenkins) Narramore, 91, passed away peacefully March 27, 2019, at her home in Decatur, Texas. Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, 2019, 1 hour prior to service at Hawkins Funeral Home Decatur, Texas. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday,March 30, 2019, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur. Interment will follow at West Bridgeport (Old Town or West Side) Cemetery, Bridgeport, Texas.
Ruth was born in Chico, Texas, to Oscar S. and Charlotte (Owen) Jenkins May 25, 1927. She attended school in Bridgeport, was active in 4-H, and attended North Central Texas College and Weatherford College. Ruth worked at the Bridgeport Hospital as a respiratory therapist. She also worked at Lorch-Westway and Poco Graphite in Decatur.
Myrtle Ruth Narramore led a meaningful life of service to God, her family and her community. As a member of the DAR, she served as regent and chaplain. She was active in the DAV Auxilliary and VFW Auxillary. In later years, she volunteered at the Veterans Hospital.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur. Baptized at Westside Baptist Church of Bridgeport as a young girl, she attended church for over eighty years. Some of her favorite memories were of working in Vacation Bible School.
She was a skilled seamstress, quilter, and upholsterer for family and friends. She is fondly remembered by many for creating “coats of many colors”. Always busy, she crafted quilts and crochet gifts that her family still treasures. Everyone looked forward to being in her kitchen for her stories, compassionate listening, and delicious pies.
Ruth was compassionate and full of love for others. She was kind and encouraging to everyone, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was generous in many ways, including teaching practical life skills to children. She inspired her family to honor their ancestors and to stand up for rightly living. She leaves a legacy of strong moral character and faithful devotion to God and family.
Preceding her in death are her parents, sisters Vera Boring and Hazel Sheffield, brothers Wesley, H.M, Albert, and Benjamin, husbands John Winans, Lindell Frazier and Billy Narramore, and her son Daniel Winans. She is survived by her brother, Edgar Jenkins, her daughter, Ruth Ann Taylor, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pall bearers: Levi Taylor, Ben Taylor, Micah Taylor, Gary Winans, Randal Winans, and Ben Allen.
