Roy Hulen Morris

March 5, 1930 — January 17, 2016

Paradise ~ Roy Hulen Morris, 85 went to be with our Lord Sunday, January 17, 2016 in Decatur.

Funeral is at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Cottondale Cemetery. Family will receive friends and family from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jay Foster will officiate.

Roy was born in the Red Bud community north of Chico to Roy Leslie and Winnie McGuire Morris on March 5, 1930.

He served two years with the United States Army as a Corporal of the Military Police. Roy was a Sales Representative with ACME Brick for 29 years and was named Salesman of the Year 7 times. He was instrumental in starting the volunteer Paradise Fire Department, as well as going door to door collecting signatures to bring natural gas to the homes of the city. He was also elected as Mayor Pro Temp in the first city elections and serving on the city council for 4 years. Roy was very involved in Paradise athletics by filming the Paradise Panthers Football Team and driving the bus for the drill team and cheerleaders.  After retirement from ACME, he went to work for Hawkins Funeral Home for 15 years. Some of his favorite pastimes were traveling to Sugar Land to visit his grandchildren, collecting vintage fans, and antique automobiles.  He was a member of the Cottondale Church of Christ. He was baptized in Killeen, TX in July of 1953. Roy married Georgia Ruth Cleveland on July 14, 1951 in Paradise.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Floy Lanelle Morris.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Georgia Cleveland Morris; his daughters, Janice Knight and husband, Paul of Sugar Land, Sheri Neeley and husband, Mark of Keller; his grandchildren, Erin Wessel and husband, Jared of Trophy Club and Taylor Knight of Sugar Land; and a great-grandson, Rhett Wessel.  As well as a sister-in-law, Edith Cleveland and brother, Arlon Morris and wife Bobbie of Chico; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Cleveland, Jerry Cleveland, Seth Foster, Jim Garrett, Taylor Knight, Davis Martin, David Rhodes, Joe Tax, and Jared Wessel.

The family would like to extend deep gratitude to the staff of Wise Regional Health System especially the ICU nurses Amanda and Nancy, Tonya from Solstice Hospice, and the staff of Stagecoach Rehab.

Roy Hulen Morris was a loving husband, beloved father, adoring grandfather and great-grandfather, treasured brother and uncle, selfless and faithful friend to countless people.
