Rosalie Schatz passed away October 7 th, 2026, at the age of 88, in Dallas, Texas.
Rosalie was born July 13 th , 1938, in Detroit, Michigan as the 3rd of 9 children. Much later, after school, marriage, and several children she settled in Yale, Michigan, where she owned a successful restaurant called Erik’s Café. Rosalie held various other jobs over her lifetime. Always challenging herself. She took pride in all that she did, especially her children. She liked to joke, “they’re the only children she ever liked.” But everyone knew that wasn’t true.
Rosalie loved working with stained glass, creating beautiful pieces for her loved ones, jewelry, antiques, travel and classic murder mysteries whether from books or British TV shows. Later in life, she settled in Sunset, Texas with her son, where she became a cornerstone of the holidays with her fruit salad and witty banter.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Richard Gilbert, Allen Gilbert, and Robert
Gilbert; sisters Faith Micallef and Joyce McGee; and her daughter Karla Knecht.
Rosalie leaves behind a large family: her older sister, Lee Cook; her sons, Erik Knecht, Kurt Knecht, Markus Knecht, Kenric Knecht and her daughter Arika Knecht and their spouses. In addition, Rosalie has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her Oma and will miss her terribly.
Per Rosalie’s request, there will not be a viewing or a funeral. Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life party to be held after a year has passed. She will be remembered for her wit, tenacity, and her fierce love and protectiveness for her family.
