Richard A. Phelps

Richard Phelps of Conroe, Texas passed away on September 18, 2026.

Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on August 5, 1928, Richard was the son of Beatrice Nichols and Harley P. Phelps. Early farm life instilled a lifelong appreciation of the outdoors. Researching and identifying plants was a favorite hobby.

Richard completed his undergraduate studies at Purdue University. Upon completing his doctorate at Michigan State University, he joined the National Cottonseed Products Association in Memphis, Tennessee and later as Director of Research and Development at Anderson Clayton Corp. in Houston, Texas.

Richard was proud to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War and faithfully supported organizations that assisted troops.

Richard is survived by his wife Carolyn Acola Phelps and son Gary.
