Decatur: Rex Allen Gage, 92, a retired U.S. Navy Commander and community businessman, went to be with our Lord, Sunday, June 19, 2011 in Decatur.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23rd at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Johnny Irish officiating. Interment: Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Trey Fernihough, Chris Fernihough, Thomas Steffen, Michael Snell, J.W. Hudson, Rodney Terrell. Honorary pallbearers include members of the United Methodist Men's Sunday School Class.
Rex was born on March 25, 1919 in Decatur, Texas to George Thomas and Eunice (Mauldin) Gage. He married Saralu Smith on August 28, 1944 and was married 61 years at her death on June 16, 2006.
Rex attended Decatur Baptist College and received his Masters at Florida Institute of Technology. He served on the Planning & Zoning Commision for 25 years and the Masonic Lodge for over 65 years. Rex was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.
Left behind to cherish his memory are is daughter, Cynthia Fernihough, and husband, Bill of Decatur; two grandsons, Trey Fernihough and wife, Breanne, Chris Fernihough and wife, Micah both of Decatur; three great grandchildren. Madelyn, Scout and Kai Fernihough all of Decatur; several nieces, nephews and brother-in-law.

Gosh I was so saddened to hear about sweet Rex. I was just talking about him last week. Bill has such fond memories about your mom and dad. He says Rex was 'a Great American' and he is right. I remember how nice your parents always were to us and how each of them always had a smile on their face. I know that you and your family will miss him dearly, and so will we. I regret that I could not be there today, but I stayed here so Bill could go. I will make an effort to get to Decatur sometime in the months to come.
