Oscar Darrell Kuykendall, 88, passed from this earth Wednesday, August 13th, 2025 peacefully in his own home surrounded by his loved ones.
Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16th, 2025 at Alvord Church of Christ with burial at Alvord Cemetery. Family will receive friends 4-6:00 p.m. Friday at the church.
Oscar was born September 23rd, 1936 in Walters, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage January 4th, 1958 to Dorothy Nelle Sanders in Mercedes, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin. Oscar served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and 2 days. He was stationed in the Philippines, Korea, Thailand and Athens, Greece during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Oscar was responsible for putting the communications together in other words a radio man. When he retired from the service it was to Alvord, Texas. Oscar was hired as a mechanic on the yuks and train engine at the Gifford Hill/Hanson crusher, retiring after 26 years. He then enjoyed life traveling and going on fishing trips with his siblings, his wife and their spouses.
Oscar loved Blue Grass Music and Blue Grass Festivals, he loved his sports, he followed the Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, enjoyed High School Football also. Oscar loved Dirt Track Races, he spent many moons sitting on his front porch with his hummingbirds. He was a jokester, loving to surprise people with a visit.
Nothing was more precious to him than when seeing family walk through the front door, it would cause a happy gleem & twinkle in his eyes. He knew Christ and that Jesus was his Savior. When you left his house with a big hug and an I Love You, his come back was I Love You More!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Nelle Sanders Kuykendall; a son, Darrell Wayne Kuykendall; his mother & father, Oscar Edwin & Alice Hester Grayson Kuykendall; his mother and father-in-law, Robert Ernest & Brownie Mae Pridgin Sanders; sisters, Mattie Joyce Rapp, Loyce Eileen Romps, Wilma Fay Adams, Wanda June Kuykendall and her son, Gerald Edwin Miller; a brother, Donald Paul Kuykendall; brother-in-law, Robert William Sanders, and a grandson, David Wayne Malone.
He is survived by his children, Robert and Mary Kuykendall, Cindy and Bill Lynch, Dale and Debby Kuykendall, Katy and Mark Stakley, Tina and Robin Martin, John Kuykendall & Elycia Redden, Joseph Kuykendall & Jennifer Griffin; his sister, Ella Mae Risley; sister and brother-in-law, Laura & Thomas Bailey; sister-in-law, Patricia Mew Sanders; 30 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren,; extended family and a host of friends.
