Olan A. (Sonny) Pewitt, Jr.

Paradise~ Olan “Sonny” Pewitt Jr., 71, a retired machinist, went to be with our Lord Monday, December 8, 2014 in Paradise.

Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2014 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Cottondale Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Rev. Patti Mahaffey will officiate, assisted by Brenda Marlett.  Pallbearers include Mike Pewitt, Calvin Pewitt, Jeff Pewitt, Kerry Marlett, Trent Murphy, and Ryan Murphy. Honorary pallbearers are Ed Black, David Garrison, Steve Limke, Gene Lester, James Hotopp and Earl Bernard.

Sonny was born on May 6, 1943 to Olan Sr. and Murial (McKown) Pewitt in Denver, Colorado. He was united in marriage to Eunice Lee Murphy on May 28, 1977 in Lake Bridgeport. Sonny graduated from Paradise High School then earned his associates degree from TCJC. He was a machinist at General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin where he retired after 40 years of service. Sonny and Eunice moved back to Paradise in 1998 after living in Fort Worth for several years. He was an active member of the Paradise United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school. Sonny was a member of the Paradise Historical Society and a volunteer at South Wise Food Bank. He was a member of  International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Union #776.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olan Pewitt Sr., Murial Pewitt Robinson; and his step father, John W. Robinson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Eunice Pewitt of Paradise; his son, Sonny Pewitt III and wife Sherri of Azle; his daughter, Sheila Kay Roberts and husband Mikel of Paradise; his grandchildren, Chris, Joshua, and Ashley Pewitt, Aaron, Peyton, and Mikaylee Roberts; his great grandson, Talent Tucker; his brothers, James, Ernie, David and Paul Pewitt all of Bridgeport, Jerry Pewitt of Paradise; his sisters, Kathy Pelham and Mary Archer of Mineral Wells; his step brother, George Robinson of Tyler; his step sister, LaJauna Gibbs of Chandler; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and a host of friends.
