Nyoka Modell (Granny) Tuggle was a dedicated wife, mother and
grandmother. Born on September 16, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas,
she spent her life caring for her family. Nyoka passed away
peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Decatur, Texas with family at her
side.
Nyoka’s life was a testament to her passion and work ethic. In her
early years she was a stay-at-home mom, caring for the kids and
assuring there was a hot meal was on the table every evening. She
was known for her homemade chicken & dumplings and hot yeast
rolls. Nyoka found joy in various hobbies which showcased her
nurturing spirits. She tended a huge garden, spending hours on
end canning hot sauce, tomatoes, pickled jalapenos and fruit
preserves.
Later in life, when the children were older, she dedicated her time
and skill to helping her husband run the family business, Tuggle’s
Custom Concrete. She did more than simply keep books, Nyoka
helped set forms, pull mud, run a trowel machine and finish
concrete. Together they left a legacy of excellence in the concrete
construction business.
Nyoka is survived by daughters Karla Vondiezelski of Newark,
Cheryl Walls and spouse Derek of Crafton, and son Thomas
Romero of Springtown. Grandchildren are Rhonda, Justin,
Richie, Jenny, Kenzi, Avery, Natalie, Kassi, Kathy, Kandi, Little
Edward, Thomas, Teddy, and Romeo. Her brood also includes
seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild along
with a host of other family and friends.
Nyoka was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Eddie"
Tuggle of 50 years; her parents, Mirrel Anderson and Ruth
Bussell; a beloved granddaughter, Kari; and two sisters, Joyce and
Clara.
Visitation for family and friends to honor Nyoka’s memory will
take place on August 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at
Hawkins Funeral Home, located at 100 S Ewing St, Boyd, Texas.
After visitation, the funeral service will be at 11:00 AM to 12:00
PM with Brother Jeff Bakker officiating.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Heritage
Place Nursing and Rehab, as well as Solaris Hospice, for the love
and care they provided to mom over the past several years.
