Nelda Adams

Bridgeport ~ Nelda La Verne Adams, 91, went to be with our Lord, March 4, 2019, in Decatur.

Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport with burial in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Rev. Rick Davis will officiate. Pallbearers include Kevin Sharp, Adam Hudson, Steven Potts, Seth Hudson, Mark Sharp, Shawn McCully, Sean Carpenter, and Erin Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers include Matthew Wells, John Potts, Jimmy McCarthy, and Hunter Sharp.

Nelda was born June 8, 1927, to Murrriell Thomas and Opal Evon (Motley) Manning in Chico. She was united in marriage to John Henry Adams on April 3, 1943, in Bridgeport. Nelda was a member of Women’s Auxiliary/DAV, The Bridgeport Historical Society, and First United Methodist Church. She retired from Bridgeport ISD as cafeteria manager.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Adams; her granddaughter, Lori Potts; her sister, Verba Manning, her brothers, Maurice Manning, and Jess Melton.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Karen Sharp and husband Roger of Bryson, Beverley Potts and husband Larry of Bridgeport, and Nancy McCully and husband Gary of Huntsville; her sister, Onita Smith of Decatur; her sister-in-law, Martha Starnes of Hempstead; her grandchildren, Kevin Sharp, Steven Potts and wife Barbara, Mark Sharp and wife Martha, Adam Hudson and Melissa Brown, Seth Hudson and wife Sandy, Erin Carpenter and husband Sean, Shawn McCully and Amanda Forner; her great-grandchildren, Matthew Wells and wife Victoria, Deborah McCarthy and husband Jimmy, John Potts and LaLei Ghanfili, Haley Sharp, Hunter Sharp, and Baby Boy Hudson; her great-great-grandchildren, Hannah McCarthy, Brian McCarthy, Kinsley McCarthy, Vivyan Wells, and Beverley Wells; her caretakers, Christie and Ben Jones, of Boyd; her extended family, Tommy and Pam Hudson of Bridgeport; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
