Decatur ~ Nathaniel Haggerty Jr., 78, went to be with our Lord Monday, July 20, 2020 in Decatur.
Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Decatur with burial in Driskell Cemetery in Karnack, Texas. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Affectionately known as “BooBoy,” Nathaniel Haggerty Jr. was born the last of seven children, to Nathanial Haggerty Sr. and Pammie Haggerty (Thomas) on November 25th 1941 in Karnack Texas. Upon completion of his studies at Karnack ISD, he matriculated to Prairieview A&M University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electric Engineering. While on summer break PVAMU, he met his future wife Delores Haggerty (Bass,) while working at Methodist Hospital. During his lifelong career as an engineer, including retiring from the Army Corps of Engineers, he travelled all over the world including places like Thailand, Guam, Canada and most recently Enid, Oklahoma where he was currently working. Throughout that time the couple raised two daughters. At an early age he gave his life to Christ at Friendship Baptist Church in Karnack Tx and continued to show a strong faith throughout his life attending Bethlehem COGIC, Ft. Worth, TX and The Living Word Tabernacle in Bridgeport Texas.
Known for his unrelenting work ethic and continuous encouragement, BooBoy brought laughter where-ever he went. Ever encouraging people to work hard, never give up, and always do your best because “God will take care of the rest”.
BooBoy joins his parents; sister, Dorothy Johnson; brothers, Willie C. “Ray” Haggerty and Uler Haggerty Sr. in sweet reward.
He is survived by his devoted wife Delores; sisters, Maudie Hamilton, Helen Broden, and Rubye Covington; daughters, Nadina Haggerty Price (Jessie) and Helenna Haggerty Wills (Gene); grandchildren, Ne’Andreia Marshall (Everett), Michael Price, and Derayni Price; great grandchildren Chloe Marshall and Joseph Marshall, as well as host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
