Mari Lyn “Trixi” Featherston, of Decatur, died Sunday evening following a lifelong struggle with severe rheumatoid arthritis. In spite of living every day since childhood with constant pain and disability, she lived a life of service to others who were suffering.
She was born on August 15, 1956, to John Henry and Marilyn Neel Featherston. After graduating from Waco High School in 1974, she attended Lubbock Christian University, graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1978, and then launched a life dedicated to the sick and hurting.
She had a long career working for the American Cancer Society leading community outreach, and patient advocate, programs. During those years, she was also sent by teams of rheumatologists to medical schools and conferences around the world to teach doctors and medical students how to diagnose, treat, and serve, those who were suffering the way that she suffered.
She was a deeply devoted Christ-follower, and spent most of her adult life leading and teaching Bible Study groups. Countless people know Him better because she introduced them to Him.
She is survived by her Mom, Marilyn, of Decatur. Her brother, John, and his wife, Kay, of The Colony. Her niece, Jenna Silvers, and her husband, Stacy, of Austin. Her nephew, Jay Featherston, and his wife, Jennifer, of Decatur. Her great-nieces and nephews, Luke Silvers, MaryLee Silvers, Jack Silvers, and Lily Featherston...and so many of you that she loved and chose as her family.
It was her request to be immediately cremated on her death. There will be a celebration of her life Sunday afternoon, at 3:00, in the Chapel of the Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
In keeping with her passion for the broken and the hurting, she requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to: Serenity Church, PO Box 560487, The Colony, TX, 75056
