Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church with Father Sojan George officiating. Rosary is 7 p.m. Thursday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Maria was born November 7, 1933 in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico to Juan and Vicenta Martinez Solis. She married Panfilo Fernandez on July 26, 1952 in Hermita DeLos Correa, Jerez Zacatecas.
Left behind to cherish her memory are husband, Panfilo Fernandez of Decatur; four daughters, Berta Hernandez and husband, Silvestre of Bridgeport, Leticia Juarez and husband, Mario of Los Angeles, California; Marta Gillstrap and husband, James of Los Angeles, California, Maria Fernandez of Decatur; two sons, Isidro Fernandez and wife, Ana of Decatur and Arturo Fernandez and wife, Sara of Decatur; 29 grandchildren, Silvestre, Raymundo, Aurora, Abelia, Cindy, Gerardo, Jose Panfilo, Sandra, Sheila, Jafid, Adriana Leticia, Marta Daisy, Ana Elvira, Mayra, Alexander, Gricel, Mario, James, Krystal, Jennifer, Stephanie, Daniel, Roberto, Jesus, Pamela, Brenda, Mike, Arturo, Jr., and Alexandra.
