Decatur

Decatur ~ Margaret “Nanny” Fischer, 86, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in Decatur.

Margaret was born on January 6, 1940, to Thomas John and Ethel (Bendell) Smith in Ipswich, England. She was united in marriage to Wesley Loyal Fischer on May 26, 1957, in Ipswich, England. Margaret loved to cook and give things, even a small token of love. She retired from Paradise ISD, and before that, she worked at Busy Bee Bakery. Most of all, Mom was loved and will be with us until we meet again. Rest Easy.

Kiss them all for me; it's not goodbye but until we meet again. Love you, Franny.

Jimmy:

I remember when I used to go fishing; she’d smile, and we'd have fresh fish that night.

Pennie:

Too many good times to name just a few; my mom was a loving, funny, warm-hearted lady. I will miss her, but we will meet again; until then, Mom, I love you.

Robert:

One of my fondest memories of my nanny I had called off work sick, and I wasn’t, of course, my boss didn’t believe me. The next thing I know, Nanna is in her car, driving to my work to defend my honor. I will miss you, Nanny. Love you.

Asa will miss how Nanny made him smile and tried to feed him.

Linda:

I’ll miss how we could talk about anything and figure it out together.

Steven:

Mom loved seeing me come in the door with fresh fish and shrimp. Always grateful; Mom always made things fun when growing up, but most of all, Mom's sense of humor. (Got my eye on you)

Daniel:

One of my good memories is when Nanny would sneak me candy after my mom would tell her no. When Mom would get mad at us, Nanny would comfort us and make us feel better by telling us not to worry. Mom did the same stuff when she was little.

Lee:

Lots of good memories, but one was planting a garden with my nanny in the shade of an L that was for me. I was always in the garden picking vegetables and overwatering

Ari:

One of my favorite memories was going up to Nanny’s house, and she was singing, and I sat down, and we sang together. And also, the last time I went up, she looked at me and put her arms up for a hug and said Hi, my baby girl.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Fischer; her sisters, Pauline and Pam, and Margaret Bendell; her brother, Derrick; her mother and father, Thomas and Ethel Smith; her granddaughter, Talina Denton; and a multitude of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Steven Fischer and his wife Mary, Jimmy Fischer and his wife, Terry, Linda Brown and her husband, Ed, Frances Bruton and her husband, Rodney, and Pennie Fischer; her grandchildren, Crystal and Gustavo, Wayne and Celeste, Stacey, Lee, Asa, Ashley and Daniel, Matthew, Zachary and Adrian, and Robert Bruton; her great-grandchildren, Alex, Korbyn, Aiden, Lane, Reyah, Tyler, Alexis, Ariana, Emma, Michael, Caleb, Ryleigh, Amelia, and Rhett; great-great-grandchildren, Jace and Ezra; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
