Lavinda Ann Suson

Feb 27, 1943 — Sep 19, 2026

Lavinda Ann “Buntin” Suson, 83, of Alvord, Texas, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on September 19, 2026. Lavinda was born on February 27, 1943, in Stamford, Texas, to Clifford and Delma Buntin. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who devoted much of her life to the people she loved most.

Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with burial at Pleasant Grove #1 Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Fred Raney will officiate. Pallbearers include Jimmy Carnes, Kaden Stagg, Aaron Miller, Trace Miller, Dallas Ware, Bradly Bruce, and Doug Neely.

Lavinda and Troy Cheek were blessed with three children, Jimmy, Charles, and Karolyn Cheek. She later married James Suson, and together they had a daughter, LaNisha Suson. Lavinda and James also opened their hearts and home by adopting their granddaughter, Denise Cheek.

Lavinda worked for many years as a mail clerk for the U.S. Post Office in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a hardworking woman who took pride in staying busy and taking care of the people around her. When she wasn’t working, Lavinda enjoyed singing, spending time with her family, and shopping. She loved being surrounded by the people she cared about and was happiest when she could be there for her family.

Those who knew Lavinda knew she had a strong personality and a determined spirit. She could be stubborn when she needed to be, but that same strength made her fiercely protective of the people she loved. If you were family, you could count on Lavinda to stand beside you, protect you, and love you in her own special way. Her love may not always have been expressed with fancy words, but it was shown through the countless ways she was there for the people in her life.

Lavinda was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Buntin and Delma Thatcher; her son, Charles Cheek; her daughter, Karolyn Self; her brothers, Gary and Jimmy Buntin; her sister, Kathy Clark and other beloved family members who went before her. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will miss her dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jimmy Cheek; daughters LaNisha (Jimmy) Carnes and Denise (Dallas) Ware; her sister Joyce Howard; grandchildren Cynthia (Nick) Lawson, Leslie Self, Tiffany (Aaron) Miller, Kaden Stagg, Kayla (Colton) Taylor, Bradly, Nick, and Chelcie Bruce; great-grandchildren Trace Miller, Brendon Lawson, Cason and Karsyn Taylor and, extended family members, and friends.

Lavinda leaves behind much more than a name on a family tree. She leaves behind stories, memories, laughter, lessons, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her family will carry those memories with them and continue to share the stories that made her so special.

Though she is no longer with us, Lavinda’s love will remain in the hearts of her family. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. Rest peacefully, Lavinda. Your work here is done, and you are finally home with the Lord.
