Karen Pruitt, 84, of Decatur, went to be with her Lord Thursday, October 23rd, 2025, in Denton, Texas.
The graveside service will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, Texas, on Monday, October 27th, at 11 am.
Karen was as fierce and approachable as she was elegant and beautiful, which meant that she was mighty fierce, and made friends everywhere she went, but most importantly, she was a woman who loved and feared the Lord.
Karen was born on November 5th, 1940, to Weldon Russell and Lorene (Dickson) McGehee in Slaton, Texas.
A lifelong learner and avid reader, she attended Southland High School in Southland, Texas, as part of a 12-student senior class before graduating from Lubbock Christian College.
United in marriage to Edward Samuel Pruitt in 1985, Karen was happily married until his passing in May of 2008.
A longtime resident of Bowie and Decatur, Texas, Karen was an owner-operator of an oil & gas production company for many years and a member of the Church of Christ in Bridgeport.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, Karen will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon and Lorene McGehee, and her husband, Edward Pruitt.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Cary Cowdrey and wife Jamie of Decatur, and Russell Cowdrey and wife Diana Gutierrez of Coppell; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Dennis McGehee of Idalou; 2 sisters, Sharon Sales of Lubbock, and Patsy Barker of Slaton; extended family and a host of friends.
