Julio Enrique Lugo, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in Decatur, Texas. He was born on July 9, 1946, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Demetrio Lugo and Algimira Martinez.
Julio graduated from Ferguson High School and later retired from Owens Illinois after many years of dedicated service. Known for his warm smile and kind heart, Julio never met a stranger. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome, and his joyful spirit touched all who knew him.
Julio lived life with laughter and love, turning ordinary moments into unforgettable ones. We’re left with quite a few “remember when Papa did this” stories that bring both tears and laughter every time they’re told. Great reminders of how much joy he sprinkled into our lives.
Julio was preceded in death by his parents, Demetrio Lugo and Algimira Martinez.
He is survived by the love of his life and lifelong friend, the mother of his children, Kate Lugo; his three children: William Lugo and his wife Mary Lugo, Ron Lugo, and June Plemons and her husband Rusty Plemons; his grandchildren, Brandon Charnecki, Riley Captain, Will Lugo, Emma Lugo, Dylan Lugo, Kenzie Lugo, and Addi Lugo; his sister, Maria Martinez Lugo; his nephew, Carlos Torres Lugo; and his nieces, Alma Torres Lugo and Natacha Torres Lugo.
Julio will be remembered as a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and dear friend to many. His legacy of kindness, faith, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We take comfort in the words of Jesus, who said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25), and we rest in the hope of eternal life in Christ. Julio always enjoyed his trips back to Puerto Rico and wanted his final resting place to be there next to his parents. The family will honor those wishes and celebrate his life with loved ones in Puerto Rico.
