Joseph “Joey” Dwayne Cupit, 64, of Boyd, went to be with his Lord Saturday, May 30, 2026, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
A gathering of Joey’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2026, with a Celebration of Life immediately following, 11:00 a.m., at Boyd Church of Christ, 379 Cemetery Road, Boyd, Texas 76023.
Mark Taylor will officiate. Pallbearers include John Crump, Tyler Cupit, Jeff Curbo, Eddie Davis, Kevin McLarty, Joey Remmers, Jackson Wilkerson, and Triston Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers include Carter McLarty, Konner McLarty, and Colby Wilkerson.
Joey was born September 30, 1961, to Burtis Doyle Cupit and Juanita (Cupit) Wheeler in Westminster, California. He was united in marriage April 11, 1981, to Tammy Leigh Davis in Orange, Texas. Joey worked for WABTEC as a Locomotive RadCab Operator and was a member of the Boyd Church of Christ.
Joey was the kind of man who could not be summed up in only a few words. To those who knew him best, he was larger than life. To know him was to love him.
In his spare time, Joey enjoyed cooking and spending time with friends and family. He never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh, and anyone who spent time with him always walked away with a smile on their face.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Burtis Cupit and Juanita Wheeler, and his nephew Shane Goldman.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 45 years, Tammy Leigh Cupit; his daughters, Tiffany Nicole Cupit and Kenzi Jeaux Hays; and his son, Joseph Tyler Cupit, and wife Crystal Cupit, all of Boyd, Texas; his grandchildren, Charles Delise, Jackson Wilkerson, Triston Wilkerson, Colby Wilkerson, and Julie Garcia; great-grandchildren, Layla Maddox, Jasper Maddox, Noah Garcia, and Malcolm “Mac” Wilkerson; his siblings, Gayle Hammons, George “Scooter” Goldman, Rhonda Chesnutt, Terri Hurst, and Melody Curbo; along with a host of extended family members and friends.
