John was born on August 5, 1954 to John and Gladys (Martin) Payne in Galena Park, Texas. He was united in marriage to Patricia Dempsey on November 23, 1994 in LaJunta, Texas. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Pat Payne of Azle; his sons, Thomas Ward and wife Joaquan of Azle, and John Payne, Jr. of Houston; his daughters, Sandrea Crisp of Azle and Teresa Dempsey and husband Michael of Alabama; 7 grandchildren; his sister, Claudia Pruitt of Galena Park; other family members and a host of friends.
