John Riley Barnes

Boyd- John Riley Barnes, 76, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 in Decatur, Texas.

Graveside service will be 2:15 PM Tuesday October 8th at DFW National Cemetery.

John was born October 5, 1947 in Dayton, Tennessee to Alvin Leroy and Evelyn (Sneed) Barnes. He graduated High School from The Common Wealth of Massachusetts. On June 5, 1990 in Dayton, Tennessee he married Norma Lee (Dyer) and they were married for 34 years.  John proudly served as a Sargent in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He fought in the Vietnam War as well as Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Alvin Barnes; son, Joseph Glenn Barnes; brother, Nathan T. Barnes and sister, Mary “Frances” Bean.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Norma Lee Barnes of Boyd; Daughter, Andrea Barnes and boyfriend, Corey West; step-daughters, Jodie Foster and spouse Timmy Foster, Fancy Nelson and spouse DeWayne Nelson;  grandchildren, John David Barnes and girlfriend Tabitha Spargue, Dillion James Barnes and girlfriend Kellie Mahoney, Angelina Rose Barnes, Jaylyn Elizabeth Gagnon, Desirea Hammonds and spouse Bernard Hammons II, Jeremy Nelson and spouse Christi Nelson, Kyler Foster and spouse Keisha Foster and Justin Foster.   great-grandchildren, Mathilde Barnes, Byron Barnes, Carson Nelson, Journey Nelson, Emberlee Hammonds, Bernard “Jaxsyn” Hammonds, Kami Foster, Kimber Foster and Kylie Foster; one brother Terry Barnes, numerous extended family members and a host of friends.
