Jimmie Leon Rice, 72, of Lovington, passed away on April 7, 2026, peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

Jimmie was born on June 4, 1953, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Jimmie Bryan and Lola Vivian (Youngblood) Rice. He spent his life rooted in the land and community he loved, working in the oilfield and ranching throughout his years. Jimmie was known for his love of family, resilience, his cows, and deep connection to the outdoors. He was always an advocate for the underdog.

Jimmie loved to gamble and watch sports. He had a passion for team roping, cooking on a campfire, hunting, and fishing—activities that brought him both joy and lifelong friendships. Whether out on the caprock or by the water, Jimmie felt most at home under the open sky.

Jimmie will be remembered for his storytelling, his humor, and the way he could bring people together with a good tale and a warm presence. He had a gift for making others feel welcome and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Jimmie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
