Jerry Lynn Whatley

Chico ~ Jerry Lynn Whatley, 71, a retired scale house attendant, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, February 11, 2015 in Denton.

Graveside service is 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 at Cumby Cemetery in Chico. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Bro. Nolan Rawle will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Nobie Tucker, Danny Price, Stephen Whatley Jr., Nathan Dawson, Jimmy Walker, Mike Tyler, and Danny Cary.

Jerry was born on January 4, 1944 to Walker and Melvina (Roach) Whatley in Chico. He graduated from Chico High School. Jerry worked for Vulcan Materials. He was a firefighter and EMT for the Chico Volunteer Fire Department. Jerry was an avid sports fan and could tell you players stats and reminisce about games and sporting events all the way back to the 50’s.  He began his mornings with coffee at Yesterdays where they knew him well. Family was very important to Jerry. He loved them all very much and cherished the time spent with them.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, C.J. Whatley and Floyd Ray Whatley; and his sister, Jackye Whatley.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Stephen Whatley of Chico; his daughter, Christina Whatley of New Mexico; his grandchildren, Reyna Whatley, Stephen Whatley Jr., Nathan Dawson, Kaylnn Prince, and Kennedy Prince; his great-grandchildren, Payton, Ava, and Kaisyn; his brothers, Bob Whatley of Wichita Falls, Lee Whatley and wife Mary of Wichita Falls; his sisters, Anita Long of Chico, Nell Walker of Tipton Oklahoma, Dot Whatley of Gainesville, Shirley Cary and husband Danny of Wichita Falls; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and a host of friends.
