James was born September 15, 1931 to Ruben and Lura Mae (Williams) Sermons in Alvord, Texas. He married Mattie Greer on November 22, 1964 in Weatherford, Texas. James served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years, Mattie Sermons of Decatur; son, Chester Roberson and wife Gail of Alvord; 3 granddaughters, Andrea Quintana and husband Ben of Decatur, Lindsey Gildon and husband Andrew of Decatur, and Christy Roberson of Wichita Falls; 3 great grandchildren, Corbin Roberson, Natalie Gildon, and Gabby Roberson; sister, Betty Hipp of Roswell, New Mexico; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Roberson; brother, Arnold Sermons; and sister, Eva Jo Lee.
