Decatur: James Hudson Vanderbeck, II, 42, went to be with our Lord, Monday, July 15, 2013 in Decatur.

Graveside service is 11:15 a.m. Friday, July 19th at the DFW National Cemetery located in Grand Prairie, Texas with Rev. Gary Sessions officiating. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include Jeff Crossley, Brian Leverett, Chad Somerhalder, George Somerhalder and Bob Kempsell.

James was born August 21, 1970 in LaGrange, Indiana to James Hudson and Mary Ann (Wilson) Vanderbeck. He was united in marriage to Michelle Rae Somerhalder on December 6, 1999 in Fort Worth, Texas. James retired from the United States Navy as a Chief after more than 20 years of service.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Michelle Somerhalder; daughter, Celeste Vanderbeck both of Decatur; father, James Hudson Vanderbeck and wife Patty of Kalamazoo, Michigan; two sisters, Mary Murray of Sturgis, Michigan and Emma Vanderbeck of Kalamazoo; and brother, Gavin Vanderbeck also of Kalamazoo; other family members and a host of friends.

Family request that memorials be made to the family in support of Celeste Vanderbeck's future educational needs.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Wilson.

Sorry for your loss. I was stationed with Jim at VFA-201 in 1999-2003 and remember him as laid back, mellow kind of guy with a wild side. I know he enjoyed serving his country as it showed in quality of work. He will always be part of our family. God Bless. Please call if you need anything.

Jamie was a good friend of mine when we were growing up in HOWE, INDIANA. I knew his mom & grandfolks Bud & Freida Axley. They were all very nice people & Jamie was as good a friend as anyone could have. Till I see u on the other side, u will be missed my friend.
