Howard Dennis Thornton

Chico ~ Howard Dennis Thornton, 79, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in Chico.

Graveside Service is at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30th, at Chico Cemetery.

Dennis was born on July 28, 1947, to William Herbert and Ina Gladys (Cates) Thornton in Lamesa. He was the owner of Anchor Asphalt Paving Company and a faithful member of the Philadelphia Church of God. Dennis proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many who will miss him dearly. Wise County Veterans Group will provide Military Honors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herbert and Ina Gladys Thornton; his sister, “Sister” Frances Sowell; and his son, Dennis Ryan Thornton.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Alicha Ray and her husband, Nathan of North Richland Hills; his grandchildren, Connor Thornton, Declin Thornton, Sophia Ray, Deidre Thornton, and Gabriel Thornton; his great-granddaughter, Oaklee Harris; his brothers, Buddy Thornton, Roy Thornton, and Tom Thornton all of Chico; his sisters, Ada Clark of Marlow, Oklahoma, Judy Darnall of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Fern Foster of Fort Worth; numerous of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
