Gerald Ray Oates

Gerald Ray Oates, 74, went to be with his Lord Saturday, August 8, 2026.

Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gerre Joiner will officiate. Pallbearers include Jeff Lambert, Vince Loucks, Mark Oates, Hoss Hudson, Chuck Oates, and Blake Shivley. Honorary pallbearers include Jerry Paul Oates, Scotty Parr, David Sims, and Danny Sims, Gaylen Oates.

Gerald was born September 19, 1951 to Vernon Ray and Annie Eloyse (Carr) Oates in Decatur, Texas. He was a retired carpenter, after many years in the construction industry. Gerald was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a beloved cousin and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Annie Oates; and brother Lynn Oates.

Those left to cherish his memory are his numerous cousins, extended family and a host of friends.
