George E. Palmer

Bridgeport ~ George Edward Palmer, 85, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Monday, February 25, 2019, in Decatur.

Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport, with burial in Thomas Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Rev. Gary Dimmitt will officiate. Pallbearers include Dan Matney, Lessley Pulliam, Brighton Grisel, and Rangeley Grisel, Marc Matney, Callan Cotton.

George was born on November 15, 1933 to Clyde and Mary Edith (Ridge) Palmer in Urich, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Joy Green on June 5, 1986 in Tyler. George owned Palmer Instrument Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma for many years.  He and Joy moved back to Decatur in 1986 and opened About Time Upholstery and Refinishing and served Wise County for 20 years. George was a member of East Wood Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Blue Lodge, and was active in the Akdar Shrine.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, working on the farm and grilling steaks on the patio while enjoying the view of Decatur.

George was a kind and generous man with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor and everyone that knew him will be missed terribly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, George Ridge Palmer; his brothers, Bob, Max, Larry, and Donald Palmer.

Those left behind to cherish in his memory are the love of his life of 32 years, Joy Palmer; his daughters, Linda Palmer, Brenda Gibson and husband Larry Edgerly, Stacie Fleming, Stephanie Matney and husband Dan, Shellie Pulliam and husband Lessley; his grandchildren, Afton Hohensee, Brighton Grisel, Jaeton Williams, Rangeley Grisel, Jesse Williams, and Marc Matney; his great-granddaughter, Kinsleigh Williams.
