Geary Lewis Washburn, 85, of Decatur went to be with his Lord Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
John Hogan and Gerre Joiner will officiate. Pallbearers are Kyle Stephens, Brian Whaley, David Cowan, Rhett Wallace, Ray Mosely, and Rusty Rhine. Honorary Pallbearers will be Melton Neighbors, Joey Green, Bobby Wilson, Don Ogle, Max Holloway, and Marion Yale.
Geary was born June 14th, 1940 to Odie L. and Nora (Nikirk) Washburn in Alvord, Texas. He was united in marriage December 8th, 1961 to Linda Ann Stevens in Decatur, Texas. Geary was a retired self-employed tax consultant for over 51 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many who will miss him dearly.
Geary loved to travel with his wife Linda. He also loved spending summers at the coast, taking care of livestock, fishing with his boys and grandkids on the farm, and reading Louis L'amour books. Geary graduated from Alvord High School where he played football and was the co-captain of the team. Geary served as the President of the Decatur Rotary Club earlier in his life. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church Decatur where he once served as the church treasurer.
Geary was devoted to his family and cherished every moment with his wife, kids and grandkids. He also cherished all of his customers and considered them his friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Washburn.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 64 years, Linda Washburn of Decatur; his sons, Steve Washburn and wife Laurie of Decatur and Lance Washburn and wife Emily of Kaufman; 5 grandchildren, Fallon and husband David Cowan, Hallie Nicole, Geary Newman, and Emma Lane Washburn; a brother, Bobby Washburn; extended family and a host of friends.
Geary will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.
