Evelyn Dawson

Evelyn Dawson, 87, of Decatur went to be with her lord Monday, December 9th, 2024.

Graveside Service is 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 16th at Sweetwater Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday, 6-8:00 p.m. December 15th at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Donald McMaster will officiate.

Evelyn was born April 30th, 1937 to Tillie and Pearl (Bridges) Hudson in Decatur, Texas. She was united in marriage to Calvin “Shorty” Dawson in Chico, Texas. Evelyn was a cook for J.J.’s restaurant many years, enjoying cooking and working there; and she was a member of U-Turn Ministries in Chico. Evelyn was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many who will miss her dearly. She loved her nieces and nephews very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tillie & Pearl Hudson of Decatur; her husband, Shorty Dawson; her children, Guenn Peyton Jr., Brenda Heppe, Stevie York, and Rodney York; and her siblings, RC “Son” Hudson, Ray Hudson, Claude Hudson, Lois Hudson, and Betty Hogue.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Debbie Cole and husband of Decatur, Larry York of Chico, Danny York of Teague, Leann Stack of Briar, Barbara Moore, Glenda Brooks, and Tracy York; her brother, Mike Hudson; extended family and a host of friends.
