Ethel Lenora Cansler

Bridgeport ~ Ethel Lenora Cansler, 91, went home to be with our Lord Thursday, February 26, 2026, in Decatur.

Funeral is at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1st, at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Paradise Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Brother Gary Dimmitt to officiate. Pallbearers are Kyler Holley, Brayden Baird, Bryce Baird, Hagen Slimp, Dylan Glasco, Dalton Glasco, and Logan Cansler. Honorary Pallbearer is Scotty Smith.

Lenora Cansler, lovingly known as “Meme” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was born September 16, 1934, to Findle Fuller & Annie Lou (Roberts) Hicks in Lancaster, Texas. She married the love of her life, Thomas Verdell Cansler, on May 17, 1953, in Bridgeport, Texas. Meme found her greatest joy in being surrounded by her family. Nothing made her happier than a house full of laughter, little footsteps, and the chance to dote on the ones she loved so fiercely. She never missed an opportunity to spoil her grandkids and great-grandkids, whether with sweet treats, warm hugs, or words of encouragement that they will carry with them forever.

Meme also knew how to have a little fun. She enjoyed trips to the casino, the thrill of a good game of bingo on her iPad, cheering on the Texas Rangers, and listening to her beloved Elvis. Her playful spirit, generous heart, and deep love for her family created countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who called her Meme.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Verdell Cansler, and her 3 sisters.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Millie Holley, and her husband, Ronald, of Bridgeport; her son, Tommy Cansler, and his wife, Briana, of Henderson; her sister, Evelyn Ryan; her grandchildren, Stasha Cansler, Chance Cansler, Jason Holley, Kristen Baird, and Casey Slimp; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
