Elmer Roy "Sonny" Swallow

Newark ~ Elmer Roy “Sonny” Swallow, 82, went to be with our Lord Saturday, February 19, 2022 in Decatur.

Funeral is 11 AM Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with burial in New Fairview Cemetery. Family meeting at Mel’s Diner in Boyd after the service. Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Mike Whitaker to officiate. Pallbearers include Gilbert Sanders, Dennis Sanders, Dennis Sanders, Jr., Jeffery Sanders, Allen Sanders, and Phillip Urango.

Elmer was born on December 22, 1939 to Ralph and Bernice (Williamson) Swallow in Fort Worth. He was united in marriage to Anna Jane Ainsworth on August 28, 1979 in Boyd. Elmer proudly served our country in the United States Army. Elmer was a lifetime member of the Wise County Veterans Group and he was apart of the 101st Band of Brothers. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Richard and Robert Sanders; his brother, Michael Swallow; and his sister, Eva L. Swallow.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Anna Swallow of Newark; his children, Debra Swallow of Rockwood, Jerry Swallow of Wichita, Kansas, Jill Harris and husband Douglas of Discovery Bay, California, Holly Gonzales of Godley, Gilbert Sanders of Huntington, Dennis Sanders of Newark, Carmalita Whitaker and husband Michael of Houston, and Ronnie Parker Miami, Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his brother, Marvin Swallow of Dallas; other relatives and a host of friends.
