Elizabeth H. Dendy

Elizabeth H. Dendy, lovingly known to many as “Granno,” passed away on September 7, 2026, in Decatur. She was born on November 27, 1942, in France to Isidor and Clair “Little Grandma” Montoya. Throughout her life, Elizabeth carried a bright spirit, a great sense of humor, and a love of laughter that stayed with her and touched those around her.

On August 1, 1960, in Escondido, California, she married the love of her life, Robert Dendy. Their marriage became a lasting part of the story of her life.

Elizabeth graduated from Escondido High School in California and went on to build a long and steady career. She retired after 30 years with Kroger, where she served as a receiving manager. Her dedication and work ethic were a meaningful part of her life, reflecting the strength and dependability that those who knew her admired.

She was also a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Bridgeport, where faith and fellowship were part of her life. Beyond her work and church, Elizabeth embraced joy in memorable ways. In her younger years, she was a proud member of the Bass’n Gals fishing team, and she and the gals won several tournaments, a testament to her competitive spirit and the fun she found in friendship and adventure. She also enjoyed lighter moments that became cherished family stories, including happy times at the casino, where Granno could sometimes be found devoted to her favorite slot machine.

More than anything, Elizabeth cherished her family. She held an extra special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the nickname “Granno” speaks to the warmth, affection, and closeness she shared with them. Her laughter, her humor, and her loving presence made family gatherings brighter and everyday moments sweeter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Robert; and her 2 brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Harmon and her husband Harry Towler, Annette Williams and her husband Rafe, and Kathleen Griffin and her husband Harley. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Brian Harmon and his wife Meranda, Ryan Griffin, Amanda Williams, Jake Griffin and his wife Teaaira, Travis Williams and his wife Jennifer, and Layne Griffin. In each of their lives, Elizabeth leaves a lasting imprint of love, laughter, and family devotion.

Elizabeth H. Dendy will be remembered with deep affection for the life she built, the family she adored, and the joy she brought into the world. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
