Donny (Don) Dean McDonald, 92, of Decatur went to be with his Lord Thursday, June 4th, 2026.
Funeral is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Joe Gonzalez and John Hogan will officiate the services. Pallbearers include Rosstin McDonald, Tyler Sheble, Jan Paluszek, Carson Tomalin, Barrett Bulls, and Peyton Fisher.
Don was born March 16th, 1934 to Benjamin Franklin and Edna Mae (Humphrey) McDonald in Fay, Oklahoma. Don was a standout Thomas, Oklahoma, Terrier High School and Southwestern State Bulldog football player. He was united in marriage April 9th, 1955 to Peggy Sue Ratliff in Frederick, Oklahoma. Don received his Master’s Degree at Southwestern Oklahoma University, retiring after many years as a football Coach and Educator. He had multiple positions between Texas and Oklahoma throughout his career in Education. Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Edna McDonald, and A.J. & Betty Ratliff; siblings, Erva & Nita Anne McDonald, Kenneth McDonald, Nona & Dean Hunt, Benny McDonald & Fran Morris, Reva & Dewitt Jones and Dale Henry.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 71 years, Peggy Sue McDonald; his children, Jeff & Tammie McDonald of Magnolia, and Gregg & Sarah McDonald of Tomball; grandchildren, Ashley & Tyler Sheble of Spring, Rosstin & Aislinn McDonald of Jersey Village, Madison & Jan Paluszek of San Antonio, Taylor & Michael Uehlein of Avon, Ohio, Alyson & Peyton Fisher of Cypress, Micheala & Carson Millender of New York City, NY Carson & Lindsay Tomalin of Rockwall, and Makenzie & Barrett Bulls of Heath; his great-grandchildren, Hali Sheble of College Station, Ben Sheble of Spring, Addie & Penny McDonald of Jersey Village, Olivia Paluszek of San Antonio, Blair Uehlein of Avon, Henry Millender of New York City, Layton, Cooper & Callahan Tomalin of Rockwall; his sister-in-law, Carol Henry of Weatherford; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and a host of friends.
