Decatur ~ Don "Waymon" Pannell, 87, a retired dairy farmer, went to be with his Lord, Sunday, December 14, 2014 in Decatur, Texas.
Funeral service is 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Baptist Church with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Dr. Robert Nobles and Gerre Joiner will officiate. Family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Dale Burks, Reggie Hickerson, Ricky Nobles, Neal Fortenberry, Rex Maxwell, and Chris Burton. Honorary Pallbearers include Oscar Burks, Pat Collins, Jack Russell, Dr. Henry Dial, and Kenneth Kelley.
Waymon was born February 12, 1927 to Otto and Ruby Irene (Tomlinson) Pannell in Slidell, Texas. He married Bennie Merle Stevens on February 21, 1949 in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were married 63 till her passing in 2012. Waymon proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, Barbara Meador and husband Donald, Melinda Aaron and husband Ray, Sam Slate and husband Steve all of Decatur, and Vickie Jezek and husband John of Aubrey; 5 grandchildren, Donald Wayne Meador, Amber Tolle, Randi Silar, Parker Slate and Raena Slate; 3 great-grandchildren, Shalynn Meador, Natalie Tolle, and Rhyder Silar; nieces, Deborah Martin and Sherri Welty; and nephew, John Brockie; the Fortenberry family, other relatives and a host of friends.
Waymon is preceded in death by his wife Bennie Merle Pannell; son, Clinton Pannell; grandson, Rusty Aaron; and sister, Billie Lou Brockie.
