Darrell Edwin "Ed" Chapman, born on December 27, 1939, in Decatur, Texas to Thomas Franklin "T.F." and Barcie Lee Motsenbocker Chapman. A lifelong resident of the Paradise Community passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, in Paradise, Texas. He was a beloved figure in his community, known for his warmth and dedication to his family. He married Janice McDaniel, the love of his life and mother of his children on September 22, 1956 in Paradise.
Ed had a fulfilling career as a Plant Supervisor at Gifford Hill, TXI and Vulcan Materials Sand and Gravel in Wise County, a role that exemplified his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft. He was proud of his efforts and made several contributions to the community through his professional endeavors, retiring while employed with Vulcan Materials after many dedicated years.
He graduated from Paradise High School. His love for nature and the great outdoors defined much of who he was. Ed delighted in driving around his property on his golf cart, enjoying the sights of wildflowers and deer. In his younger years, he found joy in hunting, fishing, farming, and camping activities that allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories.
Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church Paradise, where he served as choir director at one time for both FBC Paradise and Bible Baptist of Bridgeport.
Above all, Ed cherished his family. He was particularly fond of his grandchildren and their children, reveling in the joys of being a grandparent and great-grandparent and great-great grandparent. He is survived by his sister, Cathy Chapman Stewart and husband Gary of Bridgeport; sister-in-law, Anita Chapman of Fort Worth; children, Paul Chapman and wife Charlotte of Paradise, Judy Sprayberry and husband Mike of Dallas, Janett Bearden and husband Darin of Graford, and Blake Chapman of Paradise; his 12 grandchildren, Jana, Shawn, Cheyanne, Breann, Sheena, Brian, Brad, Chuck, Derrick, Thomas, Keesha, and Charles; his great-grandchildren, Hayle, James, Justin Jr., Lexy, Shailyn, Victorie, Riley Kate, Keira, Emma, Cavern, Canyon, Parker, Case, Kinlee, Kayson, Arieanna, Bryson, and Emma Jean; and his great-great grandchild, Dior. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He also leaves behind many good friends and neighbors, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Though Ed has departed from this world, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.F. and Barcie Lee Chapman; his sister, Barbara Lee Chapman; his brother, Donald Chapman; his wife, Janice Chapman; and his son Bob Chapman. Ed will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for the outdoors, and his unwavering commitment to his community. His spirit will forever remain vibrant in the lives of those he touched.
Memorial Service will be held at a time to be announced later in the Paradise Cemetery.
