Springtown ~ Damon Bounds, 73, a retired machinist, passed away Saturday August 17, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loved ones while his favorite song "Waltz Across Texas" finished playing.

Memorial service is 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24th at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd. Family will receive friends 12-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will be in DFW National Cemetery at a later date.

Damon was born on May 5, 1940 to Raymond and Mary (Fowler) Bounds in Eldorado, Texas. He was united in marriage to Murtie Patterson on March 20, 1992 in Decatur. Damon loved his cigars, family gatherings, and looked forward to the 4th of July celebration he and Murtie held at their home every year. He was a proud veteran and morse code specialist for the United States Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Jordan.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Murtie Bounds of Springtown; his daughters, Christi Wilson of Houston, Penny York and husband Chuck of Pearland, Jenny Calles and husband Johnny of Pearland, Shami Long and husband Nathan of Justin; his stepson, Kenny Grant II of Boyd; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Brittany, Austin, Halie, Cailan, Madison and Bella; his great grandchild, Brendie; his sisters, Karen Roberts and Evanna Hagler; other family members and a host of friends.

Damon was my brother-in-arms in the U.S. Air Force Security Service. We attended Technical Schools and was stationed together in RAF Kirknewton Scotland and at Goodfellow AFB. San Angelo TX in the 1959-1966 time frame. A great American and an outstanding friend.
