Clifford Ray Buchanan

Decatur ~ Clifford Ray Buchanan died December 21, 2022 in Decatur.

Clifford was born on February 5, 1950, to Bob and Roberta Buchanan in Decatur where he lived most of his life. Clifford graduated from Decatur High School in 1968 and continued his education at Tarleton State University. His love of the farm life lead him and his wife, Cheryl, to establish Diamond B Jersey’s in 1980.  This and showing cattle were his deepest loves.

His love of showing Jersey cattle started at the age of 9, and spanned over 60 years. He grew up on the Buchanan Dairy Farm in Decatur and from the age of 5 he loved being a dairy farmer and this love spanned his entire lifetime.

Clifford won the National Jersey Show in 1989 with his very special cow, Sissy.  Throughout Clifford’s life he won countless awards that he and his family were very proud of.

Clifford mentored many young people throughout his career, teaching them the art of showing and raising dairy cattle.  This is an art that he perfected at a young age.

Clifford is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl; his son, Justin; and his parents, Bob & Roberta Buchanan.

Clifford is survived by his daughter, Amy Buchanan of College Station; son, Clif Buchanan and wife Jana of Navasota; brother, Calvin Buchanan and wife Virginia of Decatur; sister, Marsha Buchanan-Purdie and husband David of Decatur; two grandchildren, Jade & Case Buchanan of Navasota; very special friend and companion, Brenda Dyson; stepdaughter, Cheri Boyd and husband Derrick and their children; stepdaughter, Lisa Neaves and husband Jesse and their children.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
