Funeral service is 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur with Rev. Roy Spore and Chris Jones officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery following the service.. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include: Chris Jones, Dale Davenport, Bob Boyd, Gene Golden, Ray Nellis, and Sam Renshaw.
Cecil was born May 13, 1920 in Salado, Texas to Fred Bruce and Nora Lee Birdwell Wood. He married Annie Lee Reeves on April 25, 1942 in San Bernandino, California. During World War II he earned his Silver Wings and flew a B-29 bomber. Cecil was a past president of the Wise County School Personnel, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Moslah Shrine Temple, a past member of the Eastern Star, and an active member of the Wise County Veterans Group. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, playing bridge, and was an avid golfer.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Annie Lee Wood of Decatur; Son, Cecil Wood, Jr. and wife Nancy of Gonzales; daughter, Sylvia Hornback and husband Dick of Decatur; 3 brother, R.L. Wood of Jacksonville, Tennessee, F.B. Wood of Adona Arkansas, and Lee Wood of Carrollton; grandchildren, Coleman Sterling, Clinton Wood, Craig Wood, Hunter and Justin Hornback, and Elizabeth Killen; 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Cary Wood, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
