Betty was born on November 21, 1934, to Lawrence Doyle and Ona Mae (Freeman) Sheppard in Willow Point in Wise County, Texas. She was united in marriage to Edwin Thomas Massey on January 15, 1952, in Denton. Betty worked side by side with her family raising cattle and crops on the family farm. In later years, she retired after many years of dedicated service as a rural mail carrier for the Poolville Post Office.

After her first grandchild arrived, she was known as “Nanna” to all of her grandkids, great-grandkids, their friends, and family. She loved every single one of them in her own special way! At 91 years old, she was still smiling, taking pictures and videos with them. She was very involved in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities: basketball, volleyball, baseball, dance, rodeos, horse shows, and livestock shows. Even in her later years, she was ready to go to support and cheer them on. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, nanna, aunt, and friend to many who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Leon, Malchom, Jack, and J.O.; and her special cousin, Ava Crowder.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 74 years, E.T.; her daughters, Kay Alexander and her husband, Jack of Poolville, and Donna Stokes and Lee Newman of Poolville; her grandchildren, Cassidi Alexander of Poolville, Clay Dan Alexander and his wife, Mattie of Adell, Shelby Bynum and her husband, Cole of Midland, and Kelsey Smith and her husband, Todd of Lubbock; her great-grandchildren, Lottie, Logan, Sterlyn, Bode, Lilah, Leddy Kay, Sunny, Layton, and Sophie Kate; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Willow Point Cemetery Association at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
