Bernice was born September 4, 1930 in Jackson, Mississippi to Richard and Velma (Ellis) Foshee. She married John Authus Mitchell, Sr. on January 25, 1974 in Bowie, Texas and was married 28 years at his death in 2002. Bernice is also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Carl Wayne Smith, Calvin Lynn Smith, Eddie Woods; daughter, Shandy Jones, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors: 4 sons, Abner Woods and wife, Glenda of Chico, John Mitchell of Chico, Kenny Smith of Jackson, Mississippi, Gary Smith and wife, Susan of Ashville, North Carolina; 2 daughters, Lori Warner and husband, Charlie of Boyd, Gailann Smith of Sherman; 35 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Bobbie Ingram, Geraldine Coke and Faye Barlow; 1 brother Jerry Foshee; numerous nieces, nephew and a host of friends.
