Barbara Jean Wilson

Barbara Jean Wilson (Stover), of Alvord, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2026, at the age of 87.

Barbara was born on January 14, 1939, in Crescent, Oklahoma to John and Adele Stover. She graduated from Stinnett High School in 1958 and married her high school sweetheart, Larry Wilson, on August 19, 1961, in Stinnett.

Barbara devoted more than 30 years to public education and retired from Decatur Independent School District. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Alvord, where she especially enjoyed quilting with the women’s group.

Barbara and Larry treasured time spent supporting their family, especially attending their sons’ football games and making memories with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life.

She is survived by her children: Laura Wilson Smith of Denton, Texas; Kelly Wilson and wife Misty of Weatherford, Texas; and Frank Wilson and wife Suzi of The Woodlands, Texas.

She was lovingly known as “Grandma Barbara” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Chris Smith and wife Jodee and great-grandson Jasper; Caleb Smith and wife Cara and great-granddaughters Addie and Bailey; Mackenzie Parkhill and husband Clint and great-granddaughters Cleo and Covey; Mollie Waller and husband Blaise; Emily Wilson; and Cassie Wilson.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Wilson; her parents, John and Adele Stover; her brother, John Stover Jr.; her sister, Dorothy Rhea; and her son-in-law, Troy Smith.

Barbara will be remembered for her devotion to her family, calm and gentle spirit, and selflessness toward others.
